Khasi language recognition

Meghalaya Khasi and Garo languages have recently been recognized as vital components of the state’s identity, receiving equal official status alongside English through the newly enacted Meghalaya Official Languages Ordinance, 2026.This landmark decision marks a significant shift in the Meghalaya languages policy, which previously designated English as the sole official language.
